Beach Access: Raleigh & Ferris Avenue
352 yards — 5-min walk from Wright by the Beach
Your home beach, and no stairs to get there. We recommend the Raleigh Avenue access — flat, paved, and easy with a cooler, chairs, or little legs.
Two town-maintained access points sit just a short walk from Wright by the Beach — Raleigh Avenue and Ferris Avenue — and both have paved parking, handicap parking, an accessible beach overlook, an outdoor shower, and a porta john.
Our recommendation: take Raleigh Avenue. It's a flat, no-stairs walk the whole way, which makes it the easiest route with a cooler, folding chairs, or kids in tow. Ferris Avenue is right nearby with the exact same amenities if you'd rather switch it up.
The beach here is wide, soft, classic Kill Devil Hills sand — good for swimming, sunbathing, and surf fishing. There's no lifeguard on duty at either access, so it's best for confident swimmers and families keeping a close eye on kids.
